Each of the masters gowns includes a mortarboard and tassel at no extra charge, or faculty members may choose to purchase a velvet master's tam.

Master's hoods
The academic hood is comprised of a fabric shell (usually black), "degree velvet" and "school lining".
The velvet of the graduation hood represents your degree.
For example, the MBA hood uses drab velvet, as shown in the master's gown and hood pictures above. The degree velvet colors for other degrees are shown below:

In addition to the degree colors, each school generally has its own colors. These "school colors" are represented by the colors of the satin lining in the back of the hood. These colors not only vary from school to school, but often times from location to locaton! Therefore when ordering your hood, we need to know which campus you graduated from.
The price for master's hoods are $130.00 for the deluxe masters hood; $145.00 for deluxe masters hood with piping added; or $58.50 for student graduation quality masters hoods.
Master's Tams (faculty only -- not for graduating students)
Although in years past, only doctors wore velvet tams, many professors / faculty members with master's degrees are now choosing to wear a velvet tam in place of the traditional mortarboard (used by students) as it is more comfortable and further distinguishes the faculty from their students.
Unlike the doctoral tam which uses a jumbo two-button gold-bullion tassel, the master's tam uses a plain black tassel, the type used on mortarboards.
To further keep it from looking too similar to the doctoral tam, most faculty members purchasing master's tams choose the four-sided or six-sided model. However eight sided tams are also available.
Eight sided master's tams are $84.50 (including tassel) if purchased by itself, or $64.50 if purchased with gown.
The cost of the four or six sided tams are $64.50 including the black tassel, whether purchased together with gown, or by itself.
When ordering your masters tam, be sure to indicate your hat size or your head size. Using a tape, measure the circumference of your head about an inch over your eyebrow. the size should be in the neighborhood of 22 to 23 1/2 inches. It should be snug but not too tight. Round size to nearest quarter inch. If you are between sizes, err to the larger quarter inch. A cap size would be something like 6 7/8, 7 1/4, 7 3/8, etc.
